Note that the Porta Pro and Sporta Pro headbands, or the KSC75 ear clips, can all be swapped with the KSC35’s clips. The drivers simply snap in and out of the band or clips. I primarily use the KSC35 with Yaxi ear pads and a very inexpensive (less than $5) Parts Express headband .
After the HD580 and owning Grados for awhile now, I can safely say that the Portapros don't leak _that_ much. You'll be able to hear things around you, and if you don't listen very loud, it's not going to be a problem. For < $40, you can't buy anything better for your money other than KSC-35's.
I'll probably grab a new pair at some point in the next few months. $12 pads every 12-24 months for a $30 headphone might seem like a lot, but compared to the $50 pads for Sennheisers that disintegrate even faster, it's pretty reasonable. You can also save a bit if you order a few sets at once.

That being said, the cheap Koss headphones do have some issues, which are acceptable for the price, but which stop them from being S-tier, namely the poor bass extension and the strange behavior at 4-5 kHz which depends on the pads. Those are $20, and sound much better than skullcandies. I prefer them to the PortaPro's, too. After a burn in, they sound great as a first pair of decent headphones. They were my first pair as an upgrade from Apple-quality buds. The cord might have some issues if you abuse it, but mine lasted a good 8 months.
